I am just drafting terms of reference for safety representatives and intend to have one per building. I would be grateful of any help with the terms and organisation of elections, terms of office etc

we have a number of safety reps who are elected each year by the workforce. we outline to them what they should get involved in and we do this through a two day in-house training sessions with the safety reps and managers in order that there is no them and us mentality created. They are encouraged to get involved in any new initaitives and are actively involved in accident investigations, safety presentations etc. The only point which we had a great discussion on was how much time should a safety rep be allowed to spend on his/her safety rep duties.

It may have some bearing on wheter they are TU reps or appointed under the consultation Regs.

If Tu they should produce their own in conjunction with the employer.
