Hi. Can anyone help? I have been asked to carry out risk assessments for a friends public house. Has anyone done anything like this and can give me some pointers where start and any unobvious risk?
Many Thanks

Hello Ian,
A few pointers to get you on your way:
Manual handling - is hot food served? Maybe you have people carrying trays of hot food up & down stairs.
If there is a kitchen - are gas appliances serviced regularly, are the work benches adequately earthed? Is the temperature of the fridge and freezer checked on a regular basis?
More manual handling - crates of drinks, barrels, etc.
Slips, trips, falls - spillages of food & beverages, broken glass on floor.
Violence & aggression - from drunken customers.
Robbery - does one person open up or close up on their own? How does money get to the bank?
Does the pub have an entertainment licence? What about fire precautions? Are the fire extinguishers serviced annually?
Is anyone trained in first aid?
A topical issue at the minute - exposure to second hand cigarette smoke.
Are there training records for the equipment people are expected to operate? Have they got a H&S policy?
Regards,
Karen

PS don't forget a confined spaces risk assessment for CO2 in the cellar.
