Posted By Karen Todd Chris, In the south of Ireland it is law to have one of these cards and I think the period of grace is over. The main scheme in Northern Ireland is the CSR card scheme and it is also accepted in the south of Ireland and in England etc. In my last job, we were accredited providers of the CSR card scheme, and on one training course we put 20 HGV lorry drivers through to get a registration card (no skills assessment) so that they were allowed onto site. I know that some companies decide for themselves that they will not let anyone onto site without a card. Not everyone has a card as there is no legal requirement here. The company then says, "If you want to work on our site, you need a card". It also usually happens that the company can put people through the scheme, so it is a bit of a monopoly when people behave like that - "No, you need a card to get on the site, but it just so happens we can do that for you"...
