Posted By stephanie I'm looking for some advice. A member of staff has been involved in a traffic accident with some students. Only one person has been taken to hospital, hopefully not seriously injured. I realise that traffic accidents aren't covered by RIDDOR, but, as both the students and staff member were going about business, if one of them is off for three days or more, will it need to be reported? Thanks in advance.

Posted By Jack No, not if it happened on a public road (unless, of course, any of the specific conditions in Reg 10(2)(a) - (d) apply)

Posted By Laurie Stephanie I assume from your address that you are talking about an accident on campus. Talking from memory, accidents to students do not need to be reported unless they result from a work activity i.e something the member of staff was doing as part of his/her job, or because of the condition of the premises/equipment. There is an HSE Education Sheet (3?) on this subject. Laurie
