Posted By Hilary Charlton I really need some more information on CPD. On looking through SHP an article on p56 states that an online scheme is currently being developed which will ensure that CPD activities can be carried out at no cost to members. I freely admit that this will be a bonus as some of the professional development courses are quite pricey and beyond my economic reach. However, do not find that this website gives enough specific information on precisely what is required by CPD and if anyone who has been through this process can explain it in more detail then I should be very grateful. Thanks Hilary

Posted By Karen Todd Hilary, I can't advise as to IOSH CPD, but I have just put together a development action plan for IMechE for myself with my short, medium and long term goals. It says on the IMechE website: Typically CPD Involves: Keeping up to date with the latest advances in the professional arena. Developing a deeper knowledge in your specialist area. Broadening your knowledge over the wider engineering spectrum. Improving your general knowledge and management skills eg. management, finance, language. Examples of CPD activities are: Experiential learning On-job training Obtaining formal qualifications (eg MBA) Short courses (technical and non-technical) Attending conferences or seminars Distance learning Activity in the local community Acting as a Mentor Completing an N/SVQ. So, I have things on mine like attending so many Northern Ireland Safety Group / IOSH / IMechE meetings per year, helping our engineering apprentices work through their log books, completing my Dip 2, etc. The following website gives information on the framework for my CPD, but what IOSH's will be like I have no idea: http://www.pd-how2.org/ Karen

Posted By Kieran Duignan IOSH members who become RSPs (Registered Safety Practitioners) receive a ringbinder logbook that presents a framework for recording the process and content of CPD. I'm a member of several professional societies and I've found this one to be the most user-friendly. May I suggest that you ask relevant IOSH staff (Jacoba Slee or Norman Walton) how you can get a copy of this ringbinder.
