Posted By Derek Rooney MIOSH MIIRSM Hi Guys I wonder if you can help, i for the life of me can't remember. I'm trying to find out how much space an individual should have to work in. I though the Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations stating something like 11 sq ft per person. Is this correct? or am i looking at the wrong legislation? thanks Dez

Posted By Kelvin George Hi Derek Correct book, Correct number, wrong units Reg 10 - well the ACOP's that accompany it state that 11m3 should be a minimum but maybe insufficient if much of the room is taken up by furniture. It also states that where a room is above 3m high the calculation is limited to a height of 3m. Obviously if less then the correct height is used. However this 11m3 figure does not apply to the following:- a) retail sales kiosk, attendant's shelter, machine control cabs or similar small structures where space is necessarily limited or b) rooms being used for lectures, meetings and similar purposes Another however is that if the workplace is a factory and was used as a factory before the Workplace regs and it isn't an extension or conversion then the height of the ceiling can go as high as 4.2m before the height calculation cut off is applied Cheers kelvin
