Posted By Steve Cartwright We will shortly be carrying out some refurbishment work in one of buildings. This will involve knocking a few interior walls down and using the space to make a few offices. The work will take a couple of months to complete. I know you have to notify the HSE if major construction work is going to take more than 30 days or 500 man hours. Do I have to notify the HSE for this type of work. I would not classify this as major construction work, but it will take more than 30 days and 500 man hours to complete.
I will thank all in advance.
Regards
Steve Cartwright

Posted By John Caboche Steve, you do have to notify because the contract involves demolition work. However, notification is within the remit of your planning suoervisor. As client you should have appointed one of these for the contract. Hope this helps.

Posted By Samantha Fisher Absolutely the answer is yes. The project will require to be carried out under the CDM Regs which does not only mean notification. From your post it seems that you are the client. If that is the case you need to appoint a competent Planning Supervisor and a competent Principal Contractor. You will need to put together a pre construction health and safety plan and the principal contractor will need to have a suitable construction phase plan in place before you allow him to start work. A health and safety file will need to be put together at the end of the project. These are the basics of the CDM Regs, but I suggest if you haven't worked using the regs before you get a copy of the ACOP as it is very well laid out and explains what everybodys duties are. If you need any more info just ask.
