Does anybody know if "clip-on" side shields are available for normal plastic lensed prescription spectacles?

I don,t think this would be so.

Even if they cound be obtained you would have to assess suitability for purpose.

Prescription safety glasses are made up in approved premises with certificates indicating impact resistance etc. Each lens and the frame is marked with the BS kite mark. If a lens falls out they must be returned to the manufacturer to have it refitted, your local optician is not authorised to do this.
