Could someone advise what the minimum legal requirements are for Consultants to have PI cover?

Do they only need Employer's Liability Insurance?

Martyn,

As far as I am aware, and I am prepared to stand corrected, there is no legal requirement for consultants to have professional indemnity cover. However, you would be foolish not to have any and some larger clients may refuse to give you their business if you are not covered.

As for employer's liability insurance, this is compulsory but only if you have employees or you are an employee yourself by virtue of being a director of a limited company.

Regards,

Paul
