Posted By STEVE Would anyone out there spend some spare time with me on this new adventure. I am looking for someone who has already undertaken this route, who knows the pros&cons of own business, who can advise on what documentation is required as a minimum,etc.etc. Due to redundancy I have decided to go it alone, my role has been to provide occupational health&safety training as well as safety management and advisory information. Personal chat via e-mail would assist greatly Many Thanks Steve

Posted By John Johnston Hey Steve, I would suggest (along with the above link kindly posted) that you try and find a local Business start-up course that you could attend. These are usually free. I attended this one, which was fantastic..... www.feat.org.uk/ I am not in business as yet, but have plans to be in the future and found the above course invaluable. I am sure there is plenty of other advice for you, but here are some links I have come across on my research. Other sites of use: http://www.hmce.gov.uk/ http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/home.htm http://www.anewbusiness.co.uk/frameset.htm http://www.sbs.gov.uk/ http://www.businessbricks.co.uk/ http://www.safestartup.org/ Good luck. Best regards, John

Posted By Bob Youel I have had a company since the early 1970's and I am currently a director of 3. Marketing and sales is the answer. Try to go into a company on the grounds of Reg 7 MHSW as against using your own insurances as insurance can be very expensive. Get a good accountant and try to get as much cash as possible, especially re expenses. Get a sensible rate - its easier to drop down to win a piece of work than trying to justify a rise in prices. Many advisers work for rates far below what they should be charging especially in trainng/teaching areas. Get small low risk jobs first, with a paid monthly invoice as a max. "Trust everybody - as clients never take people for granted etc and always pay their bills on time."!!! Best of luck

Posted By Robert Paterson Hi Steve If you have done training before I would suggest you contact Abertay Training Ltd who are looking for trainers to present courses around the UK. www.abertaytraining.co.uk. That might give you an idea of what is involved. Contact any companies around your area and offer your services. Sometimes a flyer with your details and of the services you provide might spark an interest. Lond hard slog ahead of you and good luck. Regards Robert Paterson
