I am new to this forum so must apologise if this point has been raised many times. During a recent COSHH Audit of a Motor Vehicle workshop, the supervisor asked if there was a COSHH datasheet on used motor oil. He explained that unused oil changes in viscosity and properties and may be carcinogenic once it has been in an engine. I made enquiries at the HSE and the local Department of Transport who both replied "thats a good question no one has ever asked that before, we can't answer it" I asked the local motor trade and again had a negative reply.
I realise that there are special arrangements for the disposal of the oil but has oneone completed a Risk Assessment on it's use and handling used motor oil and a COSHH datasheet. Thanks

Hi Clive,
I did a Dip 1 assignment on this topic last year. What I will do is, when I get home I will e-mail you a copy of my assignment. There are lots of references at the back of it and from memory it also contains a COSHH assessment.
See:
http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/57-2.htm
HSG67 "Health & Safety in Motor Vehicle Repair"
There is also a leaflet SHW 397 "Effects of Mineral Oil on the Skin".
