Posted By Sean Fraser Emailed you direct - it's a weekly checklist for a 5t ride on FLT but might be adaptable to suit.

Posted By Merv Newman Graham I have one somewhere in the archives. If you don't have anything apart from that offered by sean I'll dig it out. It's a daily check (start of each shift)for standard FLTs covering (from memory) brakes, lights, steering, tyres, indicators (if fitted) seatbelt (if fitted) chains, forks and attachements, fluid levels, windows, mirrors, horn, controls, level of battery charge (or gas or fuel, visible signs of damage and cleanliness of the truck. Checks are made by the first person to take the truck that shift. If a truckie changes FLT during his shift or takes over one already used he must verify that the checks have been made or do them him/herself. One copy is posted on the area safety board, the other rides with the FLT Training on doing the checks emphasises the personal safety aspects for the truckie.

Posted By Terry Smyth James When people with letters after their name stop asking questions in relation to their chosen profession, it's time to hang up their boots and retire. It's only through an enquiring mind and the assistance of those whether qualified or not that career development may be enhanced. You will also find that people with minimal qualifications offer a wealth of knowledge, and vice versa so be careful how you percieve people. Letters after names only acknowledge academic achievement and are certainly not a measure of intelligence. Regards Terry MIOSH MIIRSM GIFireE TMIFPO

Posted By JAMES MM Academic achievement is not the sole reason for having letters after your name. You can have letters after your name for a variety of reasons. I totally agree with you that we must always continue to improve our knowledge. I could reopen the debate about experts? Who do they ask for assistance? The point I was trying to make is it necessary to show all your letters after your name on a discussion forum? Have a good one. James MBE MIOSH MCMI MIPLANT MIRTE MIAM etc etc

Posted By Robert Paterson Hi to all who have posted on this thread. It is right for ALL people to ask for help and if they are 'experts' then all the more reason to join this forum to help other 'experts' The phrase 'why re-invent the wheel' springs to mind. Forklift checks are more important than how many letters after your name. I don't have a specifice checklist but if I was looking for one where better than this forum. Regards Robert Paterson

Posted By Richard Spencer Four points really. 1. Forklifts are not ‘rocket science' and help should be sought through the study chat page which is where information is disseminated. 2. The topic for which information was sought should be a matter of research by the individual as a part of CPD. This can simply be done on the Net, and involves the individual in ownership. 3. If one studies behavioural safety one will realise that waving of post-nominals at each other in the manner demonstrated is akin to the things ‘little boys do’. 4. Post-nominals have a religious and noble origin and I believe this display has not given due deference to this origin or achieved advancement of the Institution, nor sought to impress practitioners in the art/science that has become occupational health and safety. I am not suggesting that one should not be proud of the awards gained in life, quite the contrary, but I believe for all that hold awards, must ensure that these awards are given the respect they deserve. Therefore when this occurs then the perpetrators need reminding that others also subscribe to the honour system and any display that brings its institution into disrepute causes offence. Don’t forget the honour system covers all awards, civil, military, academic etc… A little decorum please? Richard

Posted By Hilary Charlton I have sent you separately our forklift check sheet for a counterbalance truck - hopefully you can adapt this for use. I am a firm believer in not reinventing the wheel - waste of time and effort which could better be spent on something where there is no option. Hilary
