Dear Colleagues,
We are 'reviewing' our national occ health providers. Whilst the process of doing this is straightforward, it would be a good if anybody had examples of good or bad practice with their own providers.
Naturally, we cant give any firms a slagging off (no matter how tempting), but it would be really interesting to know if any national occ health providers come 'highly recommended', or who have particularly impressed.

Jez,
Unfortunately all of my recent experiences have been bad.
We are currently operating an industrial plant which generates very high noise levels. While we are actively attempting to reduce the noise at source and operate the plant remotely, etc we are placing a heavy reliance on hearing protection (type 3 ear defenders). By way of health surveillance our employees were on a quarterly audiometric testing regime to establish whether there was any loss of hearing. The results of the audiometry were taking over 6 weeks to arrive and weren't paticularly helpful when they did. Phrases such as "unsatisfactory" and "unfit" were used with no explanation forthcoming of what this actually meant? Was there any hearing loss? What was the degree of the loss?
After much discussion with the OH doctor we thought we had reached some agreement over what we actually needed to manage the situation but to no avail. While the audiometry report is produced much quicker the content remains essentially useless. We have since increased the frequency of audiometry to monthly and find that some employees who were previously "unsatisfactory" are now mysteriously "satisfactory" but with no explanation of how this came about?
My patience is wearing thin. If you find an OH provider out their with a good proactive and helpful approach please let me know their details.
