Posted By Richard Due to the poor weather my friends workplace had a leak in roof which covered floor and eletrical equipment. The workplace is a ladies haidressing salon. The landlord has told the owner of the business that the electrics are fine to use and he will sort the leak out once the weather is better. My question is what checks should be made and what rights do the employee's have.
thanks all.

Posted By George Wedgwood The electrical system should be checked out by a competent (NICEIC) registered electrician and proved to be safe. The system should be fitted with a proper Residual Current 'Earth Leakage' device, which if installed and a fault due to water was evident, would have tripped the main circuits (usually necessary in a hairdressers due to sockets near hand basins etc.). If this has happened, it has probably been reset (check this) and therefore any earth fault may have cleared. If such a device has not been fitted, beware! The system is best not used until verified safe. Fit a RCD at the first opportunity! George
