We are reviewing the training programme for moving and assisting for our staff in the care environment. We currently provide initial 2 day training followed by a one day refresher on an annual basis....there is however some debate as to how often refresher training should be provided.
Obviously this is a call we need to make and justify for ourselves but would be interested to hear from others working in the 'care sector'regarding how often they carry out refresher training in this area.

Generally speaking, if you monitor your employees to ensure that work practices are routinely carried out in accordance with training, the activity is something they do on very frequent basis, and nothing else changes (e.g. basic philosophy on people handling techniques), what then is the value or requirement for refresher training? It isn't always mandatory!
I'm more troubled in instances such as First Aid Training, where I can obtain a certificate of competence, not practice it at all for three years, yet still be considered 'competent' by the enforcing authorities!
