I am currently carrying out voluntary work for local school. Following a recent audit, a number of areas require attention including risk assessment. Does anyone have any generic information or experience in this area? Any help would be gratefully received.

Your question is rather 'broad' but if the school is lacking in its approach to risk assessment, they could consult Croner's 'School Health and Safety Mananagement: Records and Procedures' in addition to the numerous publications from the DfES, HSE and Education Service Advisory Committee for this employment sector.

Try talking to the local LEA Health and Safety Adviser. If the school is a Community or Voluntary Controlled School then they should be following any guidance issued by the LEA and you will need to ensure any advice you give does not contradict that. Even if the school is not in one of the above categories they should be able to give you some useful advice.

Hi Loz, the Education specialist Group website has some information that may help. From a survey of members a list of common issues was identified and the committee have produced information on sources of help.

The link is: http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...ews_item&aid=419&sgID=11

I hope you find it useful.

Anyone else reading this, if you can provide more information please send it to me and I will get it added to the list (only non commercial information will be posted)

Regards
