I have just been asked to look at some paint which contains a small quantity of nonylphenol. We have shied away from this product in the past because of its potential gender bender capabilities and the effect on aquatic life.

However, I have been looking at the new Regulations due to come in in January 2005 and seek clarification of whether paint is on the list of allowable processes for nonylphenol. I could not see it specifically but neither was it specifically excluded.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

If you've not already seen it, this is a good place to start http://www.defra.gov.uk/...nsult/nonylphenol-trans/

Paint is not listed in the Regs that transpose the EU Directive, however there is also a voluntary agreement applying in GB only - I didn't wade through it all, but it seems to be a bit more all-embracing.
