Posted By fats van den raad Has someone got a procedure for personnell getting into the back of containers and then with the help of a manual lift truck (lifted in by FLT) transport pallets to the door of the container for the FLT to offload. Drivers used to do this but more and more now they tell us they are not allowed to do it anymore. I'd appreciate a procedure I can (ahem) "Research" so as not to re-invent the wheel. Ta Muchly Fats

Posted By Jonathan Breeze How about: 1) Specify all deliveries to be sent to site in curtain sider vehicles for easy access by your FLT's. 2) If your supplier refuses, change supplier. I know it doesn't directly answer your question Fats, but you are the customer here and should have some say at least.

Posted By fats van den raad Unfortunately we have a number of import products that still come in containers.I would love to tell suppliers that, but again, unfortunately we are not a big enough player in some of the product lines to be able to dictate to them.

Posted By Robert.J I always thought that a driver was responsible for the load on his / her vehicle. Maybe the RHA could advise you.

Posted By Renny Thomson Robert, in the haulage industry, the container is seen as the load and the driver's responsibility is usually seen as being to ensure the container doesn't fall off! They do not touch the contents at all. It used to irk me when I was driving curtain siders, or worse, flatbeds and working to empty them and the container drivers sat on their a*ses doing nothing. Now I'm on the other side o the fence...
