Posted By Pat Hannaway A word of warning to anyone using a computer running Windows XP. If you plan applying the latest Service Pack patch (SP2), make sure that you have all of you critical data such as accident records / investigations, Risk Assessments, Training courses and records, plant maintenance logs, etc backed up onto another computer. I applied the patch to my computer and it's now TOTALLY unusable. Company I.T. Technician says that he will have to re-format hard disk and reinstall original operating system and all existing data will be lost, since system is now inaccesible. Thankfully I kept duplicate copies offsite. I know of two other friends who had similar disasters with this patch. Be warned.

Posted By jom Thanks for the warning.
Actually, everyone should operate their PCs with the assumption that the hard drive will irretrievably fail - no ifs about it, it will fail, just a matter of time.
So - is your data backed up? I know mine wasn't last week when my HD crashed.

Posted By Arran Linton - Smith I also had problems with this service patch and I found it difficult to operate Microsoft outlook after it was installed.
I rectified the problem through following this path:
Start all programs accessories system tool system restore
and then resetting the system from the day before the this service patch was set.
