I have been asked recently If I would put a proposal together to get some more Safety staff,I have never had to do this before and am wondering if anyone has had to go through this themselfes?
If you have, would it be possible to give me some directions or maybe a sensored version of the letter they wrote.

If anyone can help that would be great

Cheers
Jacqui

Jacqui, as it's not clear from your request what the purposes of 'getting some more Safety Staff together are', I very strongly advocate that you give the time and thought necessary to get this right.

Carry out process and task analyses and then specify the competencies required to achieve the task goals.

Only proceed to recruiting when there is clear agreement and funding based on these matters, with full management support.

Otherwise, you may well be 'cruising for a bruising'.

Have you thought about going down the trade union safety rep route (that is if your organisation recognises unions).

Unions provide excellent training (although the organisation would need to give paid time off for the person/s to attend training) The reps can act as your eyes and ears on the shop floor. Carrying out inspections, encouraging staff to report accidents and near misses and investigating incidents etc.

I am working with our staff side rep to try and go down this route but it is hard to find 'volunteers'.
