We have staff members who have to move laptop computers about from their cars to a workplace, looking for some sort of trolley that can be folded up into a car and then used to move the laptops about.
Anyone out there who can help??
Thanks

Have a look in the slingsby catalogue or on their website www.slingsby.com. There are quite a few too choose from.

Ian,
We issue what can only be described as a leather effect attache case with wheels on the base and a telescopic handle that can be pulled out.
Cost about £80 from most office supply companies.
As a rule this suffices for most circumstances (although cobbled hills & excessive steps can still be a problem).

Arco are usually quite good for this sort of thing. In my previous job, I bought a dual format sack truck for this very reason - it could be used in sack truck mode or in a flat trolley mode with a push handle.

Ian,
I have just shown my financial manager (construction site)your post and I can't possibly type his response (for fear of a life ban). I told him that is what it is like out there now.
Surely though, you must think that this is a bit excessive? Unless you work for a council of course!!!
What is wrong with a 10 minute manual handling traing session for nothing???
Happy spending money for the sake of it.

Thanks for all the responses so far.
James- Sorry didnt include all the info and only just realised what I had forgotten to write in the post. The staff have to move upto 12 laptops and a printer to different training locations on a daily basis.
They all have had manual handling training.
Once again Thanks
Ian

Thanks for the explanation Ian. I was thinking it must be a *loody big laptop to warrant a sack trolley.

We have issued 'satchels' to teachers for carrying laptops around in their school. As to carrying heavier items to the car, I use a folding luggage trolley - which is quite lightweight and folds down into three sections about 450mm x 300mm.

One of the best solutions that I have found is the Rollator trolley which can be folded down and easily stored in the car. The laptop trolleys, are rarely any good, and lead the user to adopt an aysmmetrical posture, as they turn to pull. The rollator is a push trolley on 4 wheels and can come with a laptop secure pouch.
Don't forget to do a drivers risk assessment if they are doing a lot of driving.
My article in 'Wellfare behind the wheel' May 2004 in Safety and Health Practioneer is worth a read. If you don't have that I can send you the replicated copy in EZ-1 ergonomics.
