I would like to hear from anyone that can provide me will some information relating to working at height in a pipeyard situation.
I have been evaluating many options to prevent people falling off pipe racks but as yet I have no definitive answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards

I've often heard that to install pipe work over head, you should complete as much pipe welding as possible on the ground and then lift it by crane into position. This minimises the time spent above ground.

Would it not be possible to work in the same manner as steel erectors, i.e. use a crane to lift the pipe in position while pipe fitters are working off mobile platforms, such as cherry pickers?

What sort of height of rack are you speaking about Donald?

Most pipe I see is stacked on the ground or on racks at about waist height.

Hi Donald.

I work for NORTH SEA LIFTING as the UK working at height training manager. I spend most of my team solving practical problems. In addition I am currently working for BP as a height safety consultant carrying out some pioneering work.
