Posted By CHRISTOPHER HAYWARD The manufacturer of our lift says the above LG1 statutory inspection is due and have quoted for the work. All our statutory inspections (including six monthly on the lift) are contracted to another party but they say that only lift manufacturers can do the 10 yearly test. Presumably this means only the manufacturer of the particular lift in question? This seems a bit restrictive.
Could someone confirm please?
Many thanks.

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Suggest you get hold of a copy of the HSE publication INDG339 "Thorough Examination and testing of Lifts" It can be downloaded from: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg339.pdfAlternatively contact the Safety Assessment Federation who should be able to clarify what they mean.

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Further to the above, I suggest that it would be good practice to contract the testing out to an organisation that is independent from your usual lift maintenance company.
This prevents any potential conflicts of interest - especially if you happen to be paying for the parts being replaced.
