Posted By George Wedgwood I suspect you want to visit the CIBSE website at:http://www.cibse.org/index.cfm?go=home.show&pageid=63&topsecid=4
They have a number of Codes that will help: Code for lighting (CD-ROM + printed extracts) (SLL: 2002) (inc. VAT) £102.73 Code for lighting (printed extracts only) (SLL: 2002) £43.00 Code for lighting (CD-ROM only) (SLL: 2002)
The HSE Guidance doc (HSG 38) give good help - i.e. 5 lux for seeing the movement of pedestrians and 20 lux for working level.

Posted By David J Bristow Hi Ronnie
Yes, there are guidelines for lighting in factories and in the workplace in general.
The lighting levels might depend on the type of machinery being used.
For e.g. the lighting levels and the type of lighting for a lathe will defer from a DSE monitor.
The lathe requires three-phase lighting so that a stroboscopic effect is not given off - i.e. the machine looks as if it has stopped but has not.
I am not an expert and I believe there are many colleagues out there with far more experience on this subject but I hope this helps.
Regards
David B
