Posted By David Baker Our company has developed a culture where pedestals are plaved adjacent to desks increasing the desk footprint by a good 30%.
The whinge being that there is not room under the desk... There is, but does anyone know if there isa recoomended or mandatory space after the CPU and pedestal has been placed (at present it is at least a chairs width)

Posted By Ron Hunter Absolute standards and 'mandatory' elements tended to disappear with the demise of the Office, Shops & Railway Premises Act. I think you need to consider Item 3(a) of Schedule 1 of DSE Regs. "The Workstation shall be dimensioned and designed so as to provide sufficient space for the operator or user to change position and vary movements" It doesn't read to me as if you're achieving this legal requirement.

Posted By JAMES MM David There is a misconception that EVERYONE needs a pedestal.
Only those who need foot support (generally because there legs are not long enough to reach the floor) should be given one. It is then your task to ensure that their ergonomics are correct to allow them to work in a comfortable manner causing them minimal discomfort and pain.
