Does anybody have any information/idea of how best to carry out a dse assessment of a user who's job is a librarian. They spend most of their time stood up at their workstation and are deemed as a user according to the guidance. Any help appreciated

If you have determined thar the individual is a User, then the Workstation must comply with Schedule 1 of the DSE Regulations ,and this means providing a suitable chair capable of the adjustments described in the Schedule. Suitable 'high' chairs are available,& in these circumstances a footrest will also be required (which fits the User!).
Strongly urge that you assess the layout and task to avoid constant changes of vision focus (e.g. between screen/customer/desk/books etc), thus avoiding significant cost of providing tri- or varifocal lenses.

Posted By duncan abbott Having assessed a wide number of librarians in a variety of environments, schools, hopitals and council libraries I have found that the best approach is to assess their whole job. Not just undertake a DSE risk assessment, as they often work in variosu locations, and perform many types of tasks, that includes lifting, reaching, coin handlng, data input and scanning. So don't limit the assessment to just one workstation, sit down with them and ask them about their task. As for the workstation it is likely to be multi user and should be set as if operated by a user. If you want specific information please email me.
