Two questions here for the price of one - aimed at any experts on rules and regs for training forklift drivers.
1) Can a forklift driver be issued with a certificate of refresher training without proof of a formal basic training course being attended?
2) What are the rules regards conversion between counterbalance and reach truck users. Are there simple conversion courses between the 2 or would a C/B driver need to undergo a full basic training course on the reach truck?
thanks to whoever can help clear up these matters
regards
Martin

Hi Martin,
In answer to you questions i would make the following comments.
1)If the operator has not attended a formal basis training course, how did he/she get certificated in the first place. the whole idea of refresher training is to ascertain a level of competence for the operator.
2) As for the difference in machines, you would have to undergo suitable training on each different type of FLT.
Remember that there quite a number of serious incidents every year involving FLT's, therefore as an employer you need to be absoloutley sure that the people operating this type of plant are competent to do so.
Cheers
Paul
