Hello, I am a new member to this forum. I am a practicing OHS Advisor in Local Government (Utility Services) in a regional city in New South Wales (Goulburn). I am 62 years old, have over 25 years experience as a Health and Safety practitioner, mostly in Local Government and Workers' Compensation Insurance where I was an Injury Manager.
I am a State Registered Nurse with the new South Wales and Australian Capital Territory Nurses Registration Board and have a Bachelors Degree from the Australian National University (Anthropol;ogy, Prehistory and Australian Sociology) and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education (University of Canberra) which I gained specialising in Adult Education - Adults with Learning Difficulties.
I have a certificate in Disaster Management from the University of New England and make use of that in the environmental situations of drought, floodds and bush fires that effect rural Local Government authorities in rural NSW.
I also have a Certificate IV in OHS and a Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training (Australian Qualifications Framework quals to the Australian National Training Authority Vocational and Educational Training Advisory Board standards)and I undertake considerable structured workplace health and safety training using VETAB accredited training packages.
My interest in coming to this site is to liaise with fellow practitioners outside of Australia and to share and exchange experiences and knowledge.
For a point of reference, NSW and Goulburn are eastern seaboard locations, with Goulburn around 250 klms southwest of Sydney and about 90 klms North of Canberra. Goulburn is 2 hours from the Australian Alps and snowfields and also about two hours from the Far South Coastal towns and beaches. It is currently 3.00 pm (1500 hours)/21 C Temperature, 52% humidity on Wednesday 20th October 2004 and we are now commencing our summer with the prospects of a very hot and dry Christmas/New Year period.
regards
JD
