Dear all,
I've been asked the question of how to dispose safely of old knives that have been used at a meat processing plant (pork).
I assume there should be some kind of box that they get put in before being put in the skip, so that the cleaners don't slash their legs carrying bags of rubbish which contain knives. What do most do - do you just use a sharps container?
Also, has anyone had people unhappy about receiving rubbish of this type?
And what if it was not pork processing, but beef processing - would the knives need to be incinerated?
Regards,
Karen

Karen,
I would treat the knives like any other "Sharps" there are companies out there that can deal with this problem for you.
Aye,
Rod

Get the maint dept to render them useless by safely grinding off the sharp edge and flattening off the point after they are cleaned it s not a big job. There shouldn't be that many to do in a week and then dispose as scrap metal when they've accumulated.

Local Police stations may offer to safely dispose of old knives, sometimes as a part of an amnesty on offensive weapons.
This might be the best way to ensure they don't get into the wrong hands!
