Posted By Adrian Plimmer Hi everyone. Just a query with regards titles of Safety Committees. We are a non union company, and our new health and safety manager has infomred us that the H and S Committee cant be titled as such because of non union involvement. It can only be called a H and S meeting. Is this true. What regulation does it come under. Safety representatives and safety committees Third edition doesnt say anything about this? Cheers Adrian Plimmer

Posted By Mark Bywater Adrian, From what I understand you can call it what you like. How does the word "committee" refer to union presence? I am rather at a loss to understand your boss' thinking. Employee representatives who are not linked to unions are called "Representatives of Employee Safety" ROES and have as much right to attend a committee meeting as the H&S manager etc in our company. Why discriminate, or argue about the name? Surely the main point is that issues are handled in an open forum where honest opinion and debate can take place on an equal footing whilst resolving H&S problems. Regards, Mark

Posted By James Byatt Adrian, I agree with Mark. We are non-unionised and yet still have a Safety Committee and Safety Representatives. You could use Forum as an alternative? Or how about the Safety Brotherhood - that'll hit a nerve with the union reps.... James

Posted By Gilly Margrave Has anyone noticed there are two threads going off one question here? Is it a cunning plot? Gilly
