Posted By Hugh Maxwell Firstly, this is not a wind up ! In my absence yesterday, I received a telephone call from work informing me that a piece of ice - approx 8" in length and 4" in width, had came through one of the roof panels in a manufacturing area. Luckily, nobody was injured. The ice left a large hole in the roof and I have photographic evidence. As we are on the main flight path to Birmingham Airport, this would suggest it is from a plane. Does anyone have any constructive comments as to who I should report this near miss to or how I should proceeed ? Do the Civil Aviation Authority have a specialist department to deal with such issues ?

Posted By fats van den raad Hugh I hope you kept the ICE in a freezer as evidence!!!!! Seriously though.... WOW... Risk Assess for That then....... I would have thought the CAA would be a good starting point to report it to.

Posted By Zoe Barnett Opinion seems to be that this is a meteorological phenomenon rather than anything to do with planes. Have a look at http://www.agiweb.org/ge...s/june00/hailstones.html If this doesn't work go to www.forteantimes.com and do a search on "ice". Enjoy the other weird stuff there while you're at it!

Posted By Dave Wilson As an ex employe of an airline, try the SRG at the CAA. This is possible however in this climate at this time of year highly unlikely. Aircraft are De iced as a matter of course where here is a likelyhood that this could happen but not at this time of year.

Posted By Stuart Nagle Hugh. Yes. Ice does fall from aircraft. See: http://www.parliament.th...226/debtext/70226-10.htm Which come from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). There have been a number of such incidents over the years in the UK. Reporting such incidents to the Fortean Times!! I think you ough to think about sitting down in a darkened room... Stuart
