Posted By John Harrison Does anyone know where we can get a pair of safety shoe soles built up to acccomodate an employee who has different leg length due to an accident and meet EN345? We have tried the services provided by the hospital the employee attends but they seem unable to do it and stay within EN345 because they use a different material to that on the original shoe and it wears out very quickly. We have tried our safety footwear suppliers without success.

Posted By Richard Altoft Total guess but have you tried EMAS or any of the manufacturers who are set up to facilitate employing disabled people. They also operate very sucessful factories etc.I do not know the names of any but "reemploy" rings a bell I have found disabled persons groups often to be helpful and knowledgeable in such circumstances.Try a web search. From another angle can you remove the risk and then reassess so that by using safe by position or safe by guarding etc rather than safe by PPE applications this person can continue to contribute to the sucess of their workgroup but is still protected. Hope you solve this one R

Posted By Merv Newman John,
I think the answers is "cobblers". If you can find a traditional boot and shoe maker ask him to make you an offer for building up the sole, finishing with an appropriate floor contact material
Any modification might "invalidate the guarantee" but I'm sure that you could demonstrate that you are trying your best to acccomodate a handicapped person.
I've done it this way in the past. The employee finished up with boots similar to "doc martens", was highly pleased and wore them on every possible occasion. (bride persuaded him that they were not suitable with a wedding suit)
