Hi all,

Can someone recommend whats the best portable monitor to purchase for alerting users that they are in an oxygen deficient environment and who sells it.
The only one i used before which was very good and durable was the tetra 4 gas detector.
Are there any others you use in your workplace regularly and how much are they

Thanks
Paul

Paul.

There are a quite a number of electronic gas monitors available on the market, and most 'multi-gas' monitors will include a sensor to monitor oxygen depletion, although you can actually specify which sensors you want...

There are some cheaper 'muti-gas' monitors now available, but having some experience, I can advise you that you get exactly what you pay for...Buy cheap and they will not last the course!!

I would say the average prices for a 'multi-gas' monitor can be anywhere from £350 to £650+ (up to £1000) depending on the manufacturer, model, function and number of gas sensors etc that can be fitted. If you need the extras, such as additional batteries, chargers, tubes and hand-pump bulbs, protective cases, test gases, software etc etc... be prepared to pay more.

If you simply require a single-gas monitor for oxygen specifically, these can be purchased at a fairly reasonable price.

A trawl of the WWW on a search engine with the words 'Gas Monitors' will get you a load of sites where further information can be sought and specifications downloaded...

Stuart (or anyone),

Can you advise me of a cheap reliable O2 meter to screw on the wall in a potential confined space?

Paul, sorry about the hijack.

I have purchased gas monitoring instruments from RS Components.

But just take into account that they will require calibration and testing up to twice a year and that the “Cell” will also require to be replaced every so often.

I would suggest you build in a recurrent cost of at least £100 per year to cover this

I've got 2 neotronics units that have been in use for the past 12 years. These were calibrated every 6 months religiously and i've now decided to dispose of them as theyre just a bit old. So theyre definately reliable.

Zellweger Analytics bought over Neotronics a number of years ago and I purchased a full supply of "Impulse XT"'s from them. Its a portable O2 monitor similiar size to a pager and costs about £150 per unit. They do not require calibration, you switch them on, two years later they fail to function and require replacement. "Impulse XP"'s I believe are the same, however require calibration and dont have a limited life. Based on the cost difference between them and the cost of calibration I suggest you go with the Impulse XTs which I can highly recommend.
