Posted By ian mcnally Good morning all,
I am looking to improve the current system we use for selecting contractors. Currently we send out a three page questionnaire which is fine but a little complex. Trouble is, we use a large number of contractors and I would like to introduce a simple system that will enable non safety qualified staff to be able to interpret the data to free up some of my time to focus on other issues. (Like 18001 which is beginning to take up an extraordinary amount of my time at the moment )
If anyone has a tried and tested rating system and would be willing to share it I would be most grateful and of course, more than happy to reciprocate with any standard forms or information / training slides etc that may be of assistance to you.
Fingers crossed
Ian M

Have you tried looking at the contractor vetting schemes that being run by some bodies. these are designed to supply a list of pre-vetted contractors to companies.
Whilst the list may not be of particular interest, many companies are now addressing this issue by getting their local contractors to register and get vetted by these bodies, and making such vetting a condition of contract for undertaking works.
Might be worth a look see...

Posted By Jim O'Dwyer Hi Ian, If you are contracting in Security Guards..... get 'Best Value' The European Union publish a handbook that provides a checklist of criteria for assessing the quality of private security services. This highlights the value to end users of taking these criteria into consideration and it also provides an excellent system for quotes which enables bids to be assessed according to criteria of both price and quality. You can get it FREE by visiting this URL: http://www.securebestvalue.org/Best wishes, Jim O'Dwyer

Posted By Tyler Further to Stuarts response. The Safecontractor scheme by National Britannia does exactly what Stuart describes and has worked well for me.

Posted By ian mcnally Thanks for your responses, have had some good information emailed directly.
I should have explained I work for a PC and not Client. Many of the Contractors we use are quite small and work almost exclusively for us and therefore less likely to register with the schemes suggested. We are in fact registered with CHAS. This scheme would be a useful way for clients to at least have some idea that the PC can demonstrate they have systems in place, so a good start.
All useful information for those unfamiliar
thanks again.
