Hi,
Please can anyone help?
I want to introduce a scheme at work to assist staff to stop smoking. I have an option with my Occupational Health provider, but can anyone else give me details of any other provider who can assist? I would appreciate details of providers who have proven to be a success. We intend to have a smoke free Company within the next 12 months.
Thank you and have a safe day,
Ang.

May I encourage you to consider the strategy underpinning your appointment of facilitators of smoking cessation at work.

Relevant research indicates that two approaches deliver effective results:
a. cognitive hypnosis, which place an emphasise on techniques of visualisation, emotion and willpower
b. cognitive behavioural coaching, which emphasise on understanding and awareness about beliefs and their influences on behavioural choices.

While they have common origins (after all, they're both trying to influence people to think and feel differently about themselves and change their behaviour accordingly), the practical implications differ sharply. In either case, you would be well advised to ensure that you choose amongst those who belong to the relevant professional societies.

In our area the Health Promotion People at the Health Authority offer stop smoking courses for free. They are currently running one at our workplace.

Its worth contacting the Healh Authority in your own area to see what they can offer, finding the right person to speak to will probably be your most difficult task!

As Karen mentioned all NHS trusts have a smoking cessation team, and as previously mentioned getting hold of the right person will be the biggest task. The second (if my experiance is anything to go by) will be getting them to do anything except talk on the phone.

The lot I worked with wouldn't do anything in case those involed wern't serious about giving up.

Good luck

At all of our sites we introduced a no smoking policy. To assist individuals who were finding it difficult to come to terms with this, we sought assistance from the local primary health care trust, who came on site for 3 visits , on visit one they spoke to individuals and issued patches ( 3 months supply ) they returned at 6 weekly intervals to monitor progress and offer advice.
The cost for this was a prescription charge of £6.40 per person , if you are in Wales then this cost would be £5 per person .Hope this helps
