Further to my previous post, a big thanks to the 20 members of this forum who emailed me and have taken part in my research questionnaire. I'm now at the 50 returns stage and I would like to get to 100 (if possible).

To recap, there is a European Employment Directive, which places a requirement on the UK Government to have age discrimination legislation in place by 1st October 2006.

I personally feel that this issue will become particularly important to safety and occupational health professionals. Under current legislative proposals employers will be able to justify a compulsory retirement age or set lower age limits for workers where there are exceptional circumstances. This includes for reasons of ‘health, safety and welfare’. I would like to know if there is a need for specific health and safety guidance on this issue.

The questionnaire takes less than 5 minutes to complete (I promise) and you can fill it in electronically (There is also a postal version).

If you can help, particularly if you can also pass the questionnaire onto OH professionals (I only have returns from 3) I would be most grateful.

I was one of those that completed the checklist and it only took about ten minutes of time including adding appropriate comments.

It is the time of the year for giving so come on give ten minutes of your time to assist Dave in his quest.
