Posted By Bob Youel Users of an astro turf arena are suffering from 'RED - eye'. All the usual ideas have been explored i.e. dusts, spraying etc and users are not connected. Any ideas?

Posted By Peter MacDonald I would drug test the lot of them!!
Are they playing outside under lights that may be affecting their eyes? Has it only just started and does it affect all players in all areas. Any local businesses exhaust drifting over the area? The pitch I play has very small plastic particles brushed over it which looks like a fine sand. Has this been replaced with a new product, have the quantities been increased?
If you find out can you post the findings out of interest.

As a former user of an astroturf-like playing surface, a number of my colleagues and myself suffered a little on occasions from soreness of the eyes.
We discovered that this was due to very small particles of sand (the fines) getting into our eyes whilst play football and causing abrasion or reactions that included, at worse, 'sticky-eye'
This usually arose when the playing surface was very dry and (as we later found out) had been topped up by fine sand being brushed into the surface.
during wetter periods it was not a problem at all...
Regards..
