Over the weekend, we have installed an anchor point for a fall arrest harness.
The anchor point consists of a D-shackle, attached to a metal bracket, and that bracket in turn is welded to an I beam.
Even though the D shackle has a WLL of 2.5 tons, how do I know that the weld is of sufficient strength, so I ask you all: -
Does it need to be load tested?
I await your responses. Thank You
Dave

Hi,
Appendix 1 of HSG33 says its adequacy should be tested by testing or calculation; it would seem difficult to calculate the adequacy of a weld (apart from assigning a failure probability to it) so I would guess you have to test,

Why not put a webbing sling over the I beam and clip onto that as your anchor point?
