Posted By Paul Beardall Could anyone shed the light on the requirement to guard band saws, BS standards state the adjustable blade guard has to fully enclose the blade, does this apply to older machines that have a gurd only on the front of the blade? likewise does the machine have to have a rundown brake prior to Dec 05

Posted By Danny O'Donnell Paul, HSE Woodworking Information Sheet WIS 31 provides information on the guarding requirements for narrow bandsaws. As for braking, narrow band saws are amongst the list of workshop machines that should be fitted with braking devices prior to 5/12/05. WIS 38 gives guidance on retrofitting. There is also an ACOP (L114)on PUWER as applied to woodworking machinery which may be of some assistance to you. Regards, Danny

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Hi Taking this kind of problem one step further. I have advised a client on the issues with his out of date woodworking machinery. No guards, breaks LEV etc. Is there anyone out there that can provide or recommend some one that can visit this work shop and give a quote on how much all these adaptions would cost. We are talking West Yorkshire. Thanks Linda
