Posted By Malcolm Hogarth Is there a requirement to carry out internal cleaning of workplace Display Screen Equipment? If so where might I find this documented? A colleague has posed this question on behalf of a friend of a friend who has been told this has to be done 'under health and safety'to prevent fire from a build up of dust. I can see the logic of it but with my cynical head on can also see a nice little earner for somebody!

Posted By Adam Jackson I've never heard of this in relation to H&S and would consider the risks to be minimal to negligable, but in my other guise as a computer geek you should never clean the insides of computers as you're more likely to do harm than good. Its reasonable to extend this to monitors themselves, although due to the lack of fans less dust will get drawn into the monitor than the computer unit anyway.
