Posted By Claire Pearce Our company social society have recently approached me regarding the health and safety implications of arranging a social event / open day on our premises. The intention is to open our production facility (manufacturing / engineering sector) to workers families and the public and also have a number of attractions etc on site. Do I need to notify or gain authorisation from any authority to do this? Also does anyone know of any guidance / information avaialble on this subject?

Posted By Heather Aston Claire I would certainly speak to your insurers, just to make sure thwy are aware of what you are doing and that you are covered in the event of someone having an accident. Normally this should be covered under your PL policy, but I find in cases like this it helps to notify them of the specifics and leave no room for doubt. Make sure on the day you "fence off" any areas you don't feel happy about people wandering into and have plenty of "tour guides" available so that you can have quite small groups going round under control.
