Posted By Simon Carrier Hello We have a Security team on site who view CCTV monitors continously through out the day. They have asked for the Company to provide them glasses as their eyes are being affected by viewing the screens, apparently a lack of light, when I suggested we could improve the light I was told to go away!!. I know that they are not covered by the VDU regs. Would they be able to get "free" glasses under another set of regs? So that I can be armed at the next confrontation. Thanks

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Simon CCTV may be covered, according to the latest edition of L26, so your employees may be users. If that is the case, they are entitled to an eye and eyesight test , at your employer's expense and, if necessary, a basic pair of glasses. Paul

Posted By Melanie Torrance Do you have a copy of the DSE Regs? If not it might be worth getting a copy. I'm looking at Page 9 which has a table giving various job titles and determining whether or not they are a user. It says: CCTV control room worker watching a monitor for continuous spells of 1 hour or more, daily, little choice whether or not to use the DSE - Definitely a DSE user or operator.

Posted By NeilM Poyznts-Powell CCTV monitors are covered under the DSE Regulations. Therefore, i would suggest that a DSE Risk Assessment is carried out. This also means that your company should cover the cost of eye tests, corrective devices etc. Regards, Neil
