Moving Plant/Machinery between sites (merger)

Can anybody help?
Our company is in the process of merging its two sites into one bigger site (the site where I work).
I/We have been tasked to produce risk assessments and subsequent method statements for moving the plant/machinery to the new site from the old. Some pieces of plant weigh approx 10 tons, and the travelling distance between sites is approx 2 miles.
We have split the process down into sub sections i.e. decommissioning, lifting/loading, transport, unloading, recommissioning etc etc.
Firstly does anyone work in the logistics field who could send me some kind of generic RA's or Method Statements for this kind of job? (Before you ask, we do not have enough money in the pot to employ experts!!!) Or do you have first hand experience of this?
Secondly, failing the first request, does anybody have any idea of we go about this i.e. methods of work, what type of equipment to lift/load, requirements for competent persons, training, special considerations - in fact any help would be good help.
The more I delve deeper into this project, the more I realise what a can of worms we are opening.
Please email any documents direct.
Thanking you all in advance
Dave

Can't help with the move, but just a reminder that when the items are installed in the new location they are regarded as new, and must comply in all respects with all current legislation from Day 1, although I'm not sure if this means they should be CE marked!

Not sure generic would suffice - I like job specific RA's and method statements.
Ensure that all personnel employed in the moves are fully briefed in the safe practices to be used in the movement of the items and ensure that they sign to say they attended the brief. If contractors are involved they should supply method statements, proof of qualifications of employees etc.
CE marking is only a requirement if you manufacture equipment for general sale, not for equipment built in-house for your own company use. The same regs come into play though and this follows the guidelines used as if for CE certification i.e. plans, Elect Regs, engineering expertise etc. All recorded and completed by competent personnel.
Good Luck

We did almost exactly the same thing in 2000. I still have some of the documentation left and will send direct. Points to note:
1. Split task down - as you have - into disconnection/decommisioning of equipment at old site, loading, transport, unloading, installation/commissioning at new site.
2. I strongly recommend using a specialist to load/transport/unload - work with them to produce method statements/risk assessments. Be very clear where the demarcation between their task and yours is. Check their insurance cover is sufficient for dropping your most expensive piece of plant off a bridge into a river (no, this didn't happen to us!)
3. Have a written "tick box" checklist for disconnection/reconnection to ensure everything is covered. I remember once a contractor trying to move a machine that was still bolted to the floor - didn't do their crane any favours trying to lift the whole building (the crane lost). Dont forget things like asbestos, weight limits of floors, draining and disposal of fluids, etc.
4. If your old building will have people in it after (even if only demolishing) be sure all fixings are removed from the floor. We had several "tripped over sticking out bolt" accidents during and after the move.
5. Do take the opportunity to upgrade machinery when you move it if you can. HSE will NOT expect it to all be state of the art instantly on moving, but they will expect to see reasonable improvements made. Don't worry about CE marking - it doesn't apply here.
6. Have a final sign-off system which requires you to personally sign off each piece of plant before it goes back into production. I spent quite a few Sunday evenings in our new plant doing this before Monday start-ups but it was worth it.
7. Bear in mind that this may well be a notifiable project under CDM - we decided the fit-out of our new factory was.
Good luck!
