Dear all.
Has anyone seen the advert number 123 on page 74 of the February edition of the SHP mag?
This advert is under the heading of ‘Dust Control’. The devise allows persons to ‘de-dust themselves when necessary’.
The company also say ‘it is a safe means of de-dusting’
What are the thoughts of the safety professionals on this means of ‘de-dusting’? Personally, I think this is exposing the person to an even higher risk of breathing in these airborne particles, and a vacuum system would be more appropriate.
Regards
Kelly

As the photograph suggests, perhaps the system is only intended to be used while the operator is still wearing their RPE.

Problem with a vacuum system is it doesn't get used. They tend to be either too efficient and suck in the operators clothes or not efficient enough and take too long to suck in the dust.
Like it or not operators WILL use ordinary airlines to blow dust off their clothes (how ever many times the risks are explained) especially if they've been doing it for years. While I wouldn't disagree with your view, it is a better option than a) using airlines or b) doing nothing, which is what would happen otherwise.
