While I was taking a health and safety class earlier this week, one of my students, (a laboratory techician for a large multi-national soft drinks company), informed me that part of his functional role was to taste the product on a regular basis throughout the day.
This work activity is begining to have an adverse effect on his teeth. I suggested that he approach the company for dental health screening as part of their duty of care towards employees.
He informs me that previous requests have been ignored.
Has anyone ever experienced or dealt with this type of compliant?

Yes, I have been asked a similar question in th past by a lady working in a factory making sugar based sweets.
I took a similar view, that it was reasonable for the company to provide dental health checks/health surveillance due to the increased risk of tooth decay (provided they are not false etc!!)
I quoted the general provisions of the management regs.
Afraid I don't know the outcome of my particular case, as it was part of a telephone help line service run by a consultancy I used to work for.
I would advise that the person in question formally writes to her employer making them aware of her concerns etc - then it is on record for any future claims.
She could always involve the HSE/EHOs for their opinion etc.

In my youth (sadly not adequately miss-spent) I was chemist/bacteriologist for a water works. We had to taste twice (spit, don't swallow) a day the waters from about twenty wells and settling tanks. This training was a great preparation for a (much) later appreciation of wines. Standard practice was to rinse out between samples with distilled water. This was so that the taste from one sample did not carry over to the next.
Suggest that your contact try the same practice : taste sample, spit, rinse and spit again.
