Posted By Thomas Kennedy Calling all gardeners! I've been looking into the health and safety of our landscape gardeners recently. Some may think it's a relaxing life working outdoors in parks and the like - but many of the jobs are tough on the body. I'm concerned about some of the tasks they do whether it's bending over to bed in plants or swinging a strimmer back and forth for the day. the manual handling of equipment's a prominent feature too. I'm looking to review risk assessments and safe working procedures. Can anyone point me in the direction of any sources of information on best practice for manual handling and the prevention of muscolskeletal issues in the landscape gardening industry. Thanks in anticipation

Posted By Robin B Hi Thomas Try The Institute of Groundsmanship. The IOG are based in Milton Keynes [I think] and they do have a web site. Robin PS I think I'd worry about Biological hazards from dog droppings, or needlestick from discarded needles!
