Can any one help - With reference to pre employment screening for occupational voice users; The use of the voice is for many employees the primary tool of there trade, pre screening for hearing and eyesight is common practice yet the vocal cords are in most cases not tested.
Anyone have any experiance with prescreening for the occupational use of the voice - or any Ideas/suggestions on an acceptable method of prescreening

Research in the field of speech and language therapy suggests that reliable occupational screening of the kind you apparently refer to is not yet possible on a general basis.
Organic voice problems are the province of ENT specialists; referrals to them are normal before a SaLT conducts treatment, in case the presenting problem is a cancer.
The growing consensus indicates that a large proportion of other complaints are 'psychogenic', or in plain language related to how the individual sees him/her-self, how he/she relates to others and manages sources of stress. Pre-screening on this basis involves psychological assessment; as there is a risk of rejection, you would need specialist assessment i.e. from a chartered psychologist with specialist training and experience in health ergonomics - which is likely to be very costly.

Get them to shout until they go hoarse. If you can get enough people who to take part you can work out an average persons vocal durability.
I would advise you to get them to stomp about whilst shouting. It won't help with the test but it will look funny.
Are you going to base your measurements on time shouting before hoarseness sets in and dB output.
You may well get an ex drill seargent who could scream all day at over 90 dB so think about aquiring some decent PPE before embarking on this act of lunacy.
I wonder how you would go on at an industrial tribunal for not employing someone because you think they may go a bit croaky?
