Posted By Lorraine Shuker I am about to try to write an Environmental Policy for a office based site. I've thought about energy saving, waste, recyling but what else do I need to cover? If anyone can help or even got one I could get some inspiration from I would be very grateful thanks lorraine lshuker@hfsloans.co.uk

Posted By Paul L Williams Lorraine, I have sent you a direct email with an attached guidance document on achieving IS014001 Environmental Standards. It will give you good advice on policy making and how to go about obtaining accreditation. Cheers Paul Williams

Posted By Jim-F sorry I was'nt trying to be a smart ass. but the document being sent to you should explain what they are, basically its, aspects are for example a chemical spill and the impact would be water pollution or land contamination

Posted By Andrew Farrell Hi Lorraine, I would suggest that you carry out an environmental aspects assessment prior to writing your environmental policy, this will allow you to identify the issues that warrant inclusion within your policy based upon their significance/relevance to the site. There are several methods of doing this which are readily available in the public domain. In addition to energy saving, waste, and recycling I would consider the following when identifying your environmental issues; Nuisance e.g. (1) Noise from employees/visitors transport, (2) litter, (3) light pollution from your buillding etc; The use and sourcing of materials e.g. (1) paper, (2) stationery (3) office equipment etc; Company car use (e.g. do you use route planning to minimise the use of fuel/subsequent atmospheric emissions); Site issues e.g. external storage of wastes, site drainage and the risk of spills. If it is your company's intention to eventually go for ISO 14001 certification you will need to include a statement within your policy with regards your organisations committment to complying with environmental legislation, preventing pollution, and continual improvement with regards environmental performance. You will also need to communicate your policy to all employees and make it available to the public. Hope this helps. Kind Regards Andy
