I've just been asked how the potential risks eg fire, and burns should be managed in senior school (13 - 18 yrs) boarding accomodation where normal safety rules prohibit kettles and rice cookers from bedrooms.
Has anyone tried rules like, tutors ensure that they are unplugged at night... They are impounded and only used following controlled issue, or is it just me who is worried by the burn marks on furniture where they have been left to rest. Should a heat resistant pad be offered for them to rest on when in use ?
Anyone crossed this bridge yet ?

A possible solution could be to install sockets that are able to be isolated from a control point for the dorm masters, and say all sockets isolated after 21.00 hrs or some such.
This of course is OK if other communal areas were available for TV ect (if they are allowed in rooms) otherwise batteries for personal CD players or other equipment could be used....
Just a thought....

Stuarts right a RCD placed in the right circuit should do the trick! or there is always rechargeable devices that are 12v might still burn body parts but not the dorm down!
