Posted By Lumpy We have recently outsourced our Facilities department. Our new maintenace provider has stopped maintaining our Air wrenches etc. It appears that in the past some of our sites did PPM while others didn't. The contract did not explicitly state the task, and instead stipulated a rather broad "maintain tools in a legal and safe condition". They state there is no "statutory requirement for PPM, and no industry best practice guidance". While I agree that for some cheaper tools it makes sense simply to replace the tool on a regular basis, some of the expensive tools are only being looked at when the fail or if someone complains!!!! Manufactures instructions are vague ("maintain") and don't help. The contractors concerns are that without some guidance, their maintenance may make matters worse. Please help .. I'm sick of banging my head against a wall. Anyone know of a maintenance schedule/requirements etc ???? We have had no cases of VWF at any of our sites, even the ones where no PPM was undertaken.

Posted By Lumpy The service provider states that the "Tools are maintained and are in efficient working order". I have no guidance to challenge this. If someone could provide industry guidance stating "air wrenches should be maintained every ??? hours use" and maintenance should consist of "lubricating the thing-a-me-bob, checking the rear spring balance etc etc", then I would have something to go on.
